Livestock Health Update – Bluetongue and Strangles

Dartmoor Commoners’ Council is aware of the growing concern about bluetongue in livestock and strangles in ponies. Please remain vigilant and follow veterinary advice. Do not approach, touch or move ponies showing signs of strangles, and avoid unnecessary pony movements. Bluetongue is spread by midges; signs can include fever, swelling, drooling and lameness.
